Hold Up Time

The hold-up time is a bridging time. It describes the time period during which the specified output power continues to be provided in the event of an input voltage failure.

The uninterruptible power supplies, for example, continue to supply the consumers with battery power for minutes or hours. But also normal switching power supplies or DC/DC converters can bridge short-term power failures up to the range of seconds by appropriately dimensioned input memory electrolytic capacitors.
