Energy consumption labeling of light sources and ecodesign requirements according to EU2019/2015 and EU2019/2020

Since 01.09.2021 the new regulations EU2019/2020 regarding ecodesign requirements and EU2019/2015 regarding energy labelling of light sources are in force. The background is to improve the energy consumption of light sources and operating devices to make a significant contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, the end customer is to be provided with all the necessary information to form a uniform and easily comprehensible picture of energy efficiency and to influence purchasing decisions accordingly.

On the one hand, this presents the lighting industry with the challenge of further improving the energy efficiency of its products. On the other hand, light sources placed on the market in the EU must be registered in a database (EPREL - European Product Registry for Energy Labelling) to which both end users, for information purposes, and the local market surveillance authorities, for checking conformity, have access.

This means a considerable additional effort for manufacturers of light sources before they are allowed to place a light source on the European market. Here we support you in the directive-compliant development and production of highly efficient products and the adaptation of existing solutions. Necessary measurements of the technical parameters can be measured in our in-house measurement laboratory and processed including measurement protocols are available.
