Time-of-Flight (ToF) Imager epc611

At the end of 2017, ESPROS Photonics AG introduced the new Time-of-Flight (ToF) Imager epc611. It has an 8x8 pixel CCD photodiode array and is available as usual in a chip-scale BGA package.

The pixel size is 20um x 20um and thus the active area is 160um x 160um. Already 7 different fixed ToF and 2 Grayscale Imager modes are integrated. With these the chip can be used e.g. in one-pixel mode as rangefinder, in fast one-pixel mode with low range noise, as 8x8 ToF imager etc. Information about the other modes can be found in the data sheet.

The chip also features a high ambient light suppression of >100k Lux. With the integrated LED driver the epc611 chip can be operated either with LEDs, VCSEL or laser diodes as illumination source. An SPI interface is available for communication with an external microprocessor. Only a few external components are necessary to realize a complete and powerful measurement system.
