Dual Output

Output with a positive and a negative voltage, both related to a common zero point. The frequently asked question in this context is: Can I use e.g. the ±12V as +24Vdc?

With a pulse width controlled DC/DC converter, only one voltage can be controlled at a time, this is usually the sum voltage with dual output! Therefore, it is usually possible to leave the zero point free and only connect the plus and minus connections.
Most power supplies and DC/DC converters have a single output with exactly one voltage.
However, there are also devices with two or three output voltages.

Often the output is polarized with a negative and a positive voltage, both related to a common zero point, such as ±12V. Since only one voltage can be regulated at a time with pulse width controlled DC/DC converters, this is usually the sum voltage with a dual output device. In order to tap this, it would be possible to leave the zero point free and only connect the plus and minus connections.
